He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8, ESV)
The Christian Scriptures teach us that God has a passion of the poor and the oppressed. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of our God’s throne, and it is our passion to join God in the renewal of hearts and lives, not only at a personal level, but also at a systemic and societal level. Leveraging the structure of missional communities, we seek to serve our neighbors, and establish justice as a value in our community and city.
Here are a few local issues in which we encourage you to participate.
Health Care Reform Debate
There is an intense debate going on in our country regarding health care reform. As followers of Jesus we are concerned about the nearly 46 million people in the United States who are without any kind of health care. According to the Institute of Medicine, 18,000 people in our nation still die each year unnecessarily because they don’t have affordable health coverage. These are justice issues. When the debate is intense there is a chance that the facts can suffer. Pico National Network and Sojourners have prepared a toolkit to educate and spark discussion. For more information click here.
